Team Black Erupts for 17 Goals in High Scoring-Affair. Win 17-10.

Cambridge–  For a team entering last night’s game with a 1-2-1 record, they played as if they were undefeated. Team black’s offense was clicking on all cylinders, coming up with an astonishing 17 goals in their 17-10 win over Team White.

It was only three games ago that this same team skated to a 0-0 tie. Since then they have come up with 12 goals, and 17 goals.

Even though Team White fell to 0-4 on the season, they definitely battled and kept this game interesting. Thomas Lenane came up with another four goals, as he now leads his team with eight on the season. Lenane’s battle against the Team Black team’s goalie all through the game was quite exciting. With 13:43 Lenane was stonewalled on a breakaway by the goalie and just 5 minutes later, Lenane was shown the glove on a shot right between the faceoff tops. Lenane persisted with just 6 minutes left in the first and tried to get one past him but again, the keeper stayed strong denying him the entire first period. Lenane eventually broke down the wall and beat one past him early in the second.

John Vlacich also shined for Team White in the loss. He also came up with four goals and now has seven goals on the season.

These two teams will square off against each other again next Sunday night at the Simoni Rink in Cambridge. Team White will naturally seek revenge and try to get their first win of the season. It’s only a matter of time until they start to gel and begin to put a few W’s on the board.

McCarthy, Soldiers Shut Out Intrepid Pursuits, 6-0

Cambridge– Josh McCarthy made 26 saves, and the Soldiers remained undefeated with a 6-0 win against the Intrepid Pursuits at Simoni Rink on Sunday.

Bryan Briggs (4) got the scoring started early in the first period when he took a pass from Mark Goodman (77) and sniped a shot into the back of the net. Just thirty seconds later Briggs scored again to make it 2-0 just two minutes into the game.

Evan Yanovitch (26) scored a goal with just 2:15 left in the period to make it 3-0.

More of the same throughout the rest of the game. The Soldiers put up three more goals to continue the route.

For the Intrepid Pursuits, given the fact goalie Kurt Grusmark gave up six goals, he really didn’t play badly. He stopped 25 out of 31 shots and other than giving up two quick first period goals, the goalie settled down nicely. He played much better in the third period, but his team could not manufacture any offense.

Intrepid Pursuits did have a solid chance in the final seconds, with a breakaway opportunity in the final ten seconds, but McCarthy denied them to keep the shutout alive.

With the loss, Intrepid Pursuits fell to 2-4 on the season. These two teams will meet again, later on, this month on March 26th.
