The Goats Shake Off Slow Start For Comeback Win Over Saints

Bedford— For the majority of the first period, the Goats didn’t look engaged. Slow, lazy, listless…pick a bad adjective and it probably applied to the Goats’ play for most of the first period.

However, the Goat’s were able to battle back thanks to big efforts by two of their big guns: Rob Klein and Colin Casey.

Unlike last Wednesday night, the Goat’s offense came to life, exploding for 12 goals, including 5 goals in the third period to earn a 12-5 win.

Some quick thoughts from tonight’s game:

(1.) Even though the Saints took the early first period 1-0 lead, the Goats immediately tied the game on the ensuing faceoff with a goal by Drew Foster.

Travis Hamilton (28) led the comeback with two second period goals to keep the Goats ahead for good.

(2.) Part of the Saints great first period was due to Sam Holl. He capped off the period with a play that excited his teammates: Holl picked off a Goat’s pass in the neutral zone with great stick positioning, and flew down the ice for a breakaway goal. It was an impressive goal, but something tells me his teammates on the bench were more fired up over the steal.

(3.) Goat’s defenseman Rob Klein was a force.  His highlight-reel power play goal to close out the first period gave his team momentum entering the second period. Klein finished the game with 3 goals and an assist.

(4.) The Goat’s were without their starting goaltender, Vincent Lee tonight. Luckily, their backup goalie played well even after he had some early jitters. After being down 3-2 after one period of play, the Goat’s goalie settled down nicely, only giving up two more goals the rest of the game.

(5.) Colin Casey basically owned the third period. With just six minutes remaining in the game, he had a speeding breakaway goal to put the Goats up 9-4. Casey finished the game with 3 goals and 2 assists.

(6.) It should also be noted that the Goat’s captain, Jack Rogers, didn’t play tonight because he had to choose between playing for his lacrosse team, or hockey team. As you can see, he chose lacrosse.

(7.) Don’t be surprised if these two teams meet again in the playoffs. The Goats are currently ahead of the Saints in the standings, but not by much. The Goats are 5-3, and the Saints are 4-4.

We also offer adult and youth Skills Clinics for players and goalies. There is something for everyone year round!! We pride ourselves on having a well run league in an environment that is friendly and community-like but also with the competitive side that most hockey players enjoy. We provide a safe environment where players can play hard but clean and not have to worry about any goons or cheap shots. We offer the best value in hockey with affordable prices, multi-league discounts and payment plan options while giving you a top quality league for players of all skill levels and ages. Our leagues are real leagues with a referee, scorekeepers, standings, stats, playoffs, trophies etc. Most of the leagues have set teams and you will play with the same players all year whether if you enter as a free agent, group or team. We believe a league should feel like an actually league where you play more than the same team every week and don't have random players assigned to your team. We end the season with some type of playoff and even though you aren't going to the NHL you can still feel like you are playing for something. We keep the amount of players per team at a reasonable number if you join as a free agent, so you will still get plenty of ice time. Our 3x3 and 4x4 leagues offer non-stop playing styles meaning less stoppage time and more ice time. In most MA Hockey League's you can make your own team. This allows you to run your own team the way you want without having to pay large team fees based on 15 player teams. Leagues are controlled and monitored to ensure that teams are in the correct divisions. We offer pick-up games at a few locations as well. Our pick-up games have no referees and less stoppages in play for more of a workout and more ice time. Hope to see you out on the ice soon! Welcome to the MA Hockey League Community! Fun, Competitive, Clean Hockey at a Great Value!!
